Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Enable or Disable Text Message Delivery Report

The best way to find out what options you can customize is by going to its settings page. As when you wants to customize your message, then you can go to Messaging app setting page and customize options available there to suit your need, such as set text template, change background style, use the Volume key to change text size, etc

While you're on Messaging app settings page, another option that you should see here is delivery report. Enabling this option will make your phone to request a delivery report for each message you send.

How to turn on or off text message delivery report?
Here are the steps you need to do to turn on or turn off this option:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Tap Messaging.
  3. Tap the Menu key.
  4. On pop up menu select Settings.
  5. Scroll to Text message(SMS) settings section. Depending on your current settings, tap Delivery reports to enable or disable this option. When the checkbox next to this option is ticked means the option is turned on.
  6. Tap Home button to return to the standby mode.

Some peoples need to get the report for each outgoing message to make sure that the message has been successfully sent. If you're one of them, then you could consider to enable this option. While if not, you can leave it to off. So, have you turn this option on or off?

    1. Hi Ajay,
      Thanks for coming.
The option should be available on Galaxy SIII Alpha above Manage SIM card message in the Message text(SMS) setting section. Another way, you might have to call your carrier to ask them why the option is not available on your phone. Some of carriers may be disable certain function or option in their device.
      Hope this helps :)

Try to send a message again. You should see the delivery report will be a notification in the notification bar and will be displayed with the "Envelope with the check mark" icon.

    1. Hi Luky Lucian,
      Thanks for coming.
The notification sound of the delivery report will follow the sound you use as the message tone. So, if you change the message tone, then delivery report sound will change as well.
If you don't know how to do so, feel free to visit our post about it here:http://inside-galaxy.blogspot.com/2013/05/samsung-galaxy-s3-how-to-change-message.html

Well, I'm so sorry to say that I don't understand much about Galaxy Ace handset. But, in Galaxy S3 or Galaxy S4 the only option available is an option to enable or disable delivery report, no option to define the time.

  7. Hi everyone
I am having the same problem with delivery report and i have been on the phone with optus people for long time. every one says different things, but for my opinion the network providers stop this service for some reason and they hiding it, i talk to Samsung people and they say it should work unless the network providers block this features.and yet no one smart enough to resolve this little issue.

    1. Hi Deni Baldwin,
      Thanks for coming.
For some reasons, I'm agree with you. I believed that the carriers/providers has the ability to turn off certain option or feature in their devices due to certain reason, as we can see this that the same option may available or not available on certain carrier. For example carrier/provider x may disable block call feature because they have their own services and wants their users to use their services instead of the stock option in the phone. And it's might be the explanation for the delivery report option as well.
Nonetheless, you can see the delivery report in each message you have sent by long tapping the message and then select View message details. From here you can see the delivery report as well as the status of the message.

    1. Hi Buddy,
      Thanks for coming.
No exact limit for SMS, some users says that it's 160 chars and some others have 200 chars. Despite from how long its limit, by default the Messaging app will convert it automatically to MMS when it's over the limit. However, if you often send long SMS and don't want your message is converted to be MMS, try to use BigSMS app. This app has a feature unrestricted message size/no MMS conversion. 3. Tap and hold the stock Messaging app icon and then drag it to the "App info" icon at the top of the screen. It'll bring you to the app info screen.

    1. Hi Eric Albright,
SPH-L710 is a Sprint phone, isn't it? I noticed in Galaxy S3, some carriers may be disable an option for certain reason. So, to know the answer, you can try to call them to ask why you don't have a delivery option on your phone.

  10. hey so i have a problem, when im typing a message on my s3 mini, and the message becomes more than 4 line the text box covers the screen and i can no longer see what the recipient has sent, thus i cannot continue replying, is there any way to lock the text box so that it only shows 3 lines or less of my text message so that i can scroll previous messages without any problems?

    1. Hi David Chilton,
      Thanks for coming.
Seems there's no option to limit the line of the text box in Messaging app (I've tried to find the option to do so in S3 and S4 but have no luck). The text box will enlarge following with the text you've entered. However, you should be able to see the recipient's number by scrolling the screen to the top.

Hoe do I prevent my phone from sending a delivery report to a number I registered as SPAM.

    1. Hi Judels,
      Thanks for coming.
FYI, when you add a number to a spam list in Messaging app settings, your phone doesn't completely block messages from that number because your phone only redirects the message to the spam folders and turns off notification when you receive a message from that blocked number. Thus the phone which send you a message assumes that the message have been delivered, not rejected.
Given to that fact, there's nothing to do in your side. The person you have blocked his number will remain get a delivery report unless he turns off the delivery report option in his phone.

    3. Hi Austin Archer,
      Thanks for coming.
Since you didn't mention your phone model and its Android version, then I assume it's Samsung Galaxy S3/S4 with Android Jelly Bean/Kitkat. Use the following steps to re-enable disabled/turned off apps:
      1. Go to Settings.
      2. Tap "More" tab.
      3. Tap "Application manager".
      4. Swipe the screen to the right until you see the "Turned off" or "Disabled" tab. You'll see all disabled/turned off apps here.
      5. Tap Messaging app.
      6. Tap "Turn on" button.
      7. Now, the Messaging app should be displayed again in the apps menu.

  13. Ever since my Galaxy s3 was forced to update yesterday, the Messaging app is making sounds when use voice dictation to compose an outgoing message.I have already gone to Settings/Sound and moved the slider to the far left, which is Silent. But the Messaging app is over riding that setting. How do I get it to stop? I still want to hear a notification when I get an incoming message--just not when I'm dictating. My version is 4.2.2 and I'm using the keyboard input Swype (after turning off SwiftKey because it keep messing up the order of words). Thanks.

  14. Hello,
I am having an issue with my character count when it comes to me text messaging in SMS form. I have seen people say that they get 90, 160, or even 200. Mine is 56!! A couple days ago my phone was accidentally set back to factory settings and I lost everything. Apps, pics/videos, contacts, the whole nine. Is it possible that I lost my character count as well? I really hope you can help me. P.S. I tried that BigSMS that you suggested to someone on here, but for some reason it will not install onto my phone. Anyway, please help. :)
    Thanks,
    Dani

  15. Hello again,
I just realized that when I disabled my signature, it went back to 160. I'm not sure why that is though. How in the world can a signature take up that much space? (If you know what I mean) It wasn't even that big. I had 11 characters all together in my signature. Well, anyway, I guess I just won't use one. I'm sorry for taking up your time. Take care.

    1. Hi Dani,
      Thanks for coming.
Once I read your comment, I tried duplicating your issue and I also noticed that the character count in Messaging app will be reduced if I enable the signature(thanks to you). I then tried both in my S4 and S5, without signature I got 160 but when I enabled signature the character count=160-(number of characters in signature).

I don't know why your phone reduced the character count that much, when you actually just used 11 chars. If you don't mind, you can try performing clear cache and clear data for your Messaging app. Once done, try turning on your signature and create a new one and then see how the character count will be.

  16. hi there
i got an issue with my GS3 i think. I continually receive read report for message send to number ******, its the same number again and again with the same time and date. I can receive up to ten message in two minutes. All options for reports are turn off, What Can I do?

    1. Hi Laurence Vézina,
      Thanks for coming.
First, make sure the read report option for Multimedia message is turned off and then try restarting your phone. If it didn't work, try clearing the Messaging app cache. Also, you can try asking your mobile service provider why you still receive those read reports even you have turned off all options for reports, maybe they can do something to help you fix this issue.
